Environmental Certifications

We are committed to the promotion of environmental sustainability, both at a corporate level and through the products we sell. We back up our commitments with a robust program of product environmental impact testing, both at the component level and for fully finished products.

There are a wide array of environmental sustainability certifications available for office and commercial seating. These include VOC (volatile organic compound) testing assessed by likes of UL Environment's Greenguard certification, carbon emissions testing assessed and certified by Toitū Envirocare and others, timber sustainability certifications from the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC chain of custody), and full environmental sustainability certifications available from a large number of organisations that include AFRDI-Furntech's Green Tick, BIFMA's Level, Global Green Tag Greenrate, and the GECA ecolabel.

Below is an informational summary on certifications Eden Office has achieved accreditation to, or is in the process of working towards.

AFRDI Green Tick

Furntech-AFRDI operates a sustainability certification program solely for the furniture industry known as AFRDI Green Tick, giving purchasers, specifiers, architects, builders and designers confidence that a piece of furniture meets a robust yet realistic level of sustainability requirements. The requirements for certification are established in AFRDI Standard 150:2012 Sustainability Standard – Commercial Furniture at either the Silver, Gold, or Platinum Level.

The assessment of the products includes ethical sourcing of raw materials, responsible use of water and energy, waste minimisation, VOC and Formaldehyde minimisation, the efficient use of raw materials, and product working life and recyclability.

  • AFRDI 150's three levels of certification are recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) as follows:
  • AFRDI Green Tick Level C/Silver - GBCA Level B recognition
  • AFRDI Green Tick Level B/Gold - GBCA Level A recognition
  • AFRDI Green Tick Level A/Platinum - GBCA Level A recognition

UL Environment GreenGuard Gold

GREENGUARD is one of the world’s most respected environmental certifications. It certifies that product chemical emissions are at safe levels, in view of minimising indoor air pollution and potential chemical exposure.

People spend approximately 90% of their time indoors where air pollution levels are typically 2-5 times higher than outdoor levels. The primary sources of this pollution are furnishings and building materials, which can release hundreds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air.

Breathing these pollutants is linked to a variety of health problems, including allergies, asthma, cardiovascular disease, reproductive disorders and some forms of cancer.

Products certified to GREENGUARD Gold undergo rigorous scientific testing in the USA to meet some of the world’s most stringent chemical emissions requirements.

Toitū carbonzero certification

Toitū Envirocare's carbonzero certification was developed to certify organisations, services and products in accordance with ISO 14064-1, providing consumers with confidence as to carbon neutrality claims. It ensures accurate measurement of greenhouse gas emissions, and includes implementation of strategies to manage, reduce and offset the subsequent impacts. Additionally, it includes the offset of remaining emissions through verified carbon credits.

FSC Chain of Custody

Forestry Stewardship Council's FSC certification is the world’s most trusted sustainable forest management solution, and the FSC chain of custody certification provides assurance that the processed timber used in certified furniture production is sourced from forest operations that are managed in socially, environmentally and economically responsible ways. It specifically verifies that FSC-certified material has been identified and separated from ineligible and unacceptable material as it makes its way along the supply chain from the forest to the market.
